Very, VERY Busy Week
Patience Paid Off and After Seventeen Years, We Visit the Pyramid
For us and freight, holiday weekends are usually the pits and it means a three-day weekend and no loads. Labor Day proved to be no different. We unloaded in the wee hours of Saturday morning and headed over to Memphis to park. The list was long of chores we needed to get done and first was laundry, which took a while. Usually I use three machines and this time it took five machines and that meant finishing a load before starting a new load. It felt great though when I was finished and could move on to other chores. By Sunday afternoon, everything was done and put away and we were looking at Monday probably not getting a load. Monday morning, I remember another driver saying they had went to the Memphis Pyramid and had found a good place to park. Off we went and seeing the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid is really something. The store is pretty realistic of being out in the woods with moss hanging from the trees and looks real, as well as all of the ponds and little steams running through the center of the store. Absolutely beautiful on how shopping as well as outdoors has been combined. We even took a trip to the top to stand on the clear balcony and look out over the city as well as the Mississippi River. Another check off of the bucket list.
Phone Rings FINALLY
Monday evening I was shocked when the phone rang with a load to pick up first thing Tuesday morning and head to New Mexico to deliver. Before we could get to New Mexico we had another load picking up in Texas going to North Carolina for a Friday delivery. We were watching the news on the new hurricane, Irma, headed for Florida and were in contact with an agent to see about running State Farm Insurance loads. Last year we helped him on the east coast after a hurricane and we enjoyed the work as well as working with this agent. After we delivered, Greg told us to hang on for a bit as he was not sure where we would go; Rock Hill, SC, Birmingham, AL, or to Bloomington, IL. While we waited, another agent called with an ASAP pickup near where we were sitting going directly to Atlanta and delivering as soon as we got there. Greg said fine and once we delivered he would know where we were going. Once under way to Atlanta, Greg called and said get to Bloomington ASAP for your next load.
Week in Review
Very seldom in Expediting do we have a week where we basically just pass each other as we change turns to drive but this week sure turned out that way. If we are able to continue to run State Farm loads it will be a little calmer couple of weeks as they usually do not load or deliver freight at night. The conditions we drive in could get interesting, but we will know more about that in the upcoming week.
Wishing you safe travels. Till next time Bob & Linda.
