Freight is HOT and so are the temperatures
Our phone has been ringing off the hook, so we have been booked out three loads in advance and that sure does not happen often for us. It is nice knowing that far out what we will be doing each day. Usually, after we deliver a load, we head to the closest Travel Center or Petro so we can get showers. If none are near, we head to a safe place to park and see what happens next. One thing about expediting, we have to be very flexible as too often we head in one direction to park and the load will pick up in the opposite direction we are traveling. We have left one city for what we think will be a better place to pick up a load and end up having to go back to the original city to pick up the freight.
Center of the Country
These past few weeks we have not strayed too far out of the center of the country. We went east as far as Fort Bragg, NC and west as far as Dallas, TX and north as far as Omaha, NE. The weather has been extremely hot and we were very thankful for our air conditioner.
Lift Gate Freight
One of our loads consisted of moving very sensitive freight from an office in Omaha, NE to a storage unit in Denver, CO. The equipment is packed very well, but still needs to be handled with kid gloves and strapped into our air ride cargo box carefully. We needed to use our lift gate for this load and as usual the customer was very impressed with the operation of our lift gate. Bob strapped the boxes to the walls of the freight box and when we arrived at our destination, the freight was still where he strapped it and in very good condition. Another happy customer that there freight was handled so professionally.
Grand Opening – Freightliner Truck Centers Wright City, MO
We were asked to show our truck at the grand opening of Truck Centers Inc. newest dealership. This store moved from St. Peters, MO to a much, MUCH bigger location and the building was custom built for this dealership. Our truck was out front along with the local fire trucks and a few police cars. As the fire trucks pulled in, I heard the familiar jingle of tire chains and sure enough, they had Onspot chains. We talked a little to the firefighters about the Onspot chains and they are sure thrilled with them and how they work. We take our Onspot chains off in the summer so it was really nice as people asked about our truck we could talk about the chains and show the attendees what they looked like on the fire trucks. Everyone was very impressed with them and their importance when moving an emergency vehicle.
What a great couple of weeks. The icing on the cake was to attend the Grand Opening of the Truck Centers Freightliner dealership which is also the shop where we take our truck when at home. Really a great group of people that we enjoy working with. Our truck is already pre-dispatched for Monday morning and we will be off and running. We hope to not be home till after the Expedite Expo being held in Lexington, KY July 20th & 21st.
Wishing you safe travels. Till next time,
Bob & Linda.
